Fashion designer Tuan Sanh accompanies Huyen Dieu and Quang Dung in traditional Ao Dai
At the contest, Huyen Dieu and Quang Dung both chose traditional costumes inspired by Vietnamese culture to perform. Fashion designer Tuan Sanh is in charge of making costumes for both. He is a young artist who is passionate about handicraft products. At the 2017 APEC meeting, his brand sewed and embroidered bags for the leaders of the participating countries.
When working with Huyen Dieu, fashion designer Tuan Sanh saw the burning desire of a 9-year-old girl that she wanted to bring the image of Vietnam to the world, so he was willing to support Huyen Dieu in the costume contest. Huyen Dieu chose the national costume of Vietnam’s Ao Dai to compete in this contest.
Mr. Tuan Sanh said that designing for Huyen Dieu faced many difficulties because she was only 9 years old, but Ao Dai is a costume for women. This is a relatively young age for him to convey many motifs and messages through costumes.
Despite many challenges, with enthusiasm and efforts to show the beauty of Vietnamese children to the world, fashion designer Tuan Sanh successfully completed 3 models of Ao Dai for Quang Dung and Huyen Dieu.
The beauty of “Lotus Flower” and “Lotus Treasures” on Ao Dai
Lotus is the main motif on Huyen Dieu’s Ao Dai. The lotus is the national flower of Vietnam because it carries the national soul of the Vietnamese people. Lotus is also a folk flower, simple and rustic, although growing in swamps, it always has an ethereal, pure beauty and passionate aroma.
Fashion designer Tuan Sanh said: “The combination of Ao Dai and lotus motifs will create a perfect whole with bold Vietnamese national culture. The design of the costume is hand-embroidered, so the details are very gentle and meticulous. This is a delicate costume, especially suitable for children.”
In addition, Mr. Tuan Sanh also devoted a lot of enthusiasm to Quang Dung’s costume. Those are cut and sewn according to traditional techniques and combined with modern technology.
Quang Dung’s Ao Dai is embroidered with the Lotus Treasures pattern, which is taken from the pattern design on the outer wall of Kinh Thien’s perrons.
Lotus Treasures is a symbol carved on the steps of Kinh Thien Palace, being the most beautiful lotus symbol in Vietnamese carving art. The embroidery of Quang Dung’s Ao Dai is done with special silk thread, dyed to match the costume’s color. The flower is represented by 3 advanced embroidery techniques: solid embroidery, stretch embroidery, and fine embroidery, all of which are made by hand.
Quang Dung – Huyen Dieu has the desire and determination to conquer international friends with Vietnam traditional costume Ao Dai, they want to show to international friends a different view of Vietnamese children in conservation, and promote the cultural heritage of Vietnam.
